Learning Environment
Tamariki are immersed in an environment where learning is fun, enjoyable, and conducted in Te Reo Māori.
Te Puna Reo Ōkahukura has a holistic learning model which focuses on the changing needs of tamariki with a high degree of respect for personal space, individuality, creativity and a sense of belonging.
Our daily activities include karakia, waiata, haka, pānuitanga, kōrerorero, mahi toi and much more.
The Puna Reo is extensively resourced with an open plan indoor environment that is colourful, meaningful, and fun.
We also promote the idea that learning happens everywhere and anywhere, which means the outdoor environment promotes exploration, discovery and challenges.
Tamariki are free to follow and initiate their own interests with the guidance of kaiako, who have established kawa and tikanga for tamariki to follow in the daily routines.
Te Reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori
As a Ngāti Whatua Ōrākei centric Puna Reo, learning promotes the aspirations of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.
Through the medium of Te Reo Māori, tamariki learn their genealogical links, the local histories and narratives of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. We also attend Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei events on our marae, at significant local landmarks and events.
Tamariki experience and develop relationships that are based on whanaungatanga and aroha. Tuākana actively support and guide the tēina.

Ages & Stages
Ngā Tupu, is the name given to our tamariki nohinohi, under 2 years of age. The word, Ngā Tupu, represents the growth that our tamariki are experiencing from 6 months until they transition to over 2 years of age.
He Puna Reo Pūmau ki a Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, ā, ko ngā akoranga e hāngai pū ki ngā wawata nui o Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei.
