Te Māra

Teacher-Guided Pathways
For tamariki over 2 years, increased structure and teacher-led activities are incorporated to introduce routines that support their growing ability to participate in group settings. These structured interactions are designed to scaffold learning in a way that aligns with Te Whāriki goals, enhancing their readiness for more complex tasks.
Navigating Transitions
Transition processes in a Puna reo are carefully managed to ensure tamariki feel secure and understood as the move between different stages of learning or environments. Strategies include regular visits to our local Rumaki, consistent routines, amd the incorporation of cultural narratives that help tamariki understand their journey within the broader whakapapa of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei thus making transitions smooth and meaningful.

Expanding Experiences
Providing a variety of learning opportunities allows tamariki to explore different skills interests, and perspectives. This includes engaging with the community, learning through nature, and interactive experiences that connect their learning to the real world, thus enriching their educational journey and broadening their understanding of their world.

Fostering Independence
Encouraging independence is crucial at this stage. Kaiako create environments where tamariki can make choices and take initiatives in their learning activities. This empowerment is fundamental in Māori Medium education, promoting self-reliance and decision-making skills within a supportive framework that mirrors the communal values of their iwi and culture.

Learning Journeys
Travel and excursions are integral to expanding the horizons of tamariki, offering them first-hand experiences that that have real life applications to their development and learning. These haerenga are planned to instil a sense of adventure and inquiry, connecting classroom learning to the wider community and natural environment.
Tuakana/Teina
This traditional Māori mentoring approach is vital in fostering a sense of responsibility and leadership among older tamariki while providing younger ones with role models within their learning taiao.
Through tuakana/teina, tamariki learn to support and teach one another. Enhancing social skills and reinforcing cultural values within the Puna reo.
