Stepping through learning
Adopting a slower pace allows kaiako to tailor activities to developmental stages of tamariki. This approach facilitates deeper, more meaningful interactions and ensures that learning aligns with the natural tempo of the children’s curiosity and exploration, providing a supportive taiao that nurtures their early learning experiences.
Focused Engagement
Operating with fewer tamariki per group enhances the quality of care and education, enabling kaiako to focus more intently on individual needs. This setting minimises overstimulation and supports a more nurturing and attentive educational taiao.

Pathways of Exploration
A less structured day provides flexibility to adapt to the immediate and evolving interests of tamariki, fostering a responsive educational setting that prioritises spontaneous play and exploration. This approach aligns with Te Whāriki and the emphasis on holistic development and learning through experiences rather than rigid scheduling.
Nurturing Growth
Nurturing in a Puna reo involves holistic care that extends beyond cognitive development to embrace emotional, physical, and spiritual growth. By embodying manaakitanga, kaiako create a caring and secure environment that celebrates and reinforces the cultural identities of tamariki, supporting their overall well-being and sense of belonging.
These approaches reflect a deep respect for our tamariki as tangata whenua, ensuring that their first educational experiences are richly embedded in Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei values and are supportive of their unique developmental paths.
